Earlier this summer, I had the pleasure of performing with the Brooklyn Troubadour and Cuban artist, Roberto Poveda, at Frost Theatre in Williamsburg. Performing all original music written by Roberto, it was my first gig where I played Cuban Bolero and Afro-Cuban styles on the drum set. I grew up studying these world rhythms and love the clave patterns in 4/4 and 6/8 time signatures, but never had a setting to perform them live outside of my classes at Berklee.
We had a great time playing the show and afterwards Roberto and I decided to start playing regularly under a new project name, simply called, Poveda. Now we are proud to announce the live debut performance of this new project next Thursday, September 19 at Club Bonafide in New York City with Roberto Poveda on guitar, myself on drums, and Loisel Machin and Kai Eric on electric bass.
Our sound is pleasantly hypnotic and laid-back, exploring dynamics rooted in Cuban, Brazilian, Jazz, Pop, Hip-Hop and World styes.
Join me next Thursday, September 19 for this special event!
